How Bio-Cord Works, and Definitions Bio-Cord is effective to catch suspended solids and to allow biological treatment of water at the same time. The main aim, however, is for biological treatment therefore in closed systems a mechanical filter should be used. In closed tank systems, suspended solids caused by biological reaction on the Bio-Cord can be removed by aeration. Once the aerator dislodges the solids they are renewed by mechanical filtration. Definitions SS - Suspended solids is the general name of solid things, which are suspended in the water. It includes organic compound and inorganic compound whose diameter is less than 2mm. It is usually expressed in ppm. It is also the cause of turbid water. MMLS - Liquid Suspended Solids is mainly SS (plankton in this occasion) concentration in the aeration tank on the active sludge process. ORG-N - Organic Nitrogen is one of the main factors, which consists of body and night soil. They include protein and amino acids. Usually it is seldom involved in pure water, though cause of flowing night soil, sewage water and industry water it increases. PPM - Part per million is a unit which indicates the rate 1 / 1,000,000 for total. In the gas of liquid, when another material is included, ppm is used to indicate its rate. For example, when one ton of water includes one gram of another material, its ppm is one ppm. NH3 - Ammonia
