Automatic Continuous Socking Machine

Our Automatic Mussel Socker is used in the continuous method of mussel growout, to sock mussels onboard, onshore, or at processing plants. It takes declumped and graded mussel seed and places it inside of a cotton sock with a fuzzy rope center. The mussel seed is held in place by the cotton sock until it attaches to the fuzzy rope. The cotton socking biodegrades and you are left with mussels growing on a continuous fuzzy rope, suspended from a horizontal longline.

The Automatic Mussel Socker is capable of socking and placing the continuously socked seed on a 300' longline in approximately 15 minutes with 2-3 workers. The longer the sock, the more efficient the machine is, as the limiting factor for speed of placement of the sock in the water is the speed at which the workers can tie the sock to the longline.

Sock tubes, socker springs, and rucker for loading socks on tubes are sold separately.
