He specializes in the development of compliant strength members for use as buoy tether elements, the anchoring of offshore aquaculture structures, and in all aspects of mooring and buoy engineering. He is currently the lead engineer in a two year development program for mussel culturing from submerged long-lines at an unprotected site 10 miles off the Massachusetts coast. Dr. Paul did his thesis work in the area of fiber rope mechanics. He specializes in the technology of fiber and wire rope, electro-mechanical and electro/optical-mechanical cables, and reinforced rubber hose. For 19 years, he worked at Gould Inc. (later Martin Marietta), designing and testing fibrous strength members, tow cables, and stretch and tow hose assemblies in support of high speed towed hydrophone arrays for the US Navy.
